Conflict between Trump and Musk: President indicates potential action to expel Tesla CEO from the country
In a recent turn of events, the relationship between tech mogul Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has taken a dramatic turn, marked by public jabs, apologies, and ongoing criticisms.
The feud between the two figures escalated on Monday, with Musk attacking the President's signature spending bill on Twitter, referring to it as the "Big Beautiful Bill." This came after Musk had previously criticized the GOP and the spending bill, labelling it the "PORKY PIG PARTY!!!"
The tension between them reached new heights when President Trump threatened to scrap government subsidies provided to Musk's companies. Musk, in response, dared Trump to slash the subsidies, claiming that Trump may have received more subsidies than any other individual in history.
The ongoing battle between Musk and Trump has had a significant impact on Tesla's shares, with Musk's shares dropping by 6% in premarket trading.
The feud also saw Trump make an unusual comment about the possibility of deporting Musk, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in South Africa. Trump's remark, made somewhat humorously, came while he was visiting a new immigration detention site in Florida.
Earlier in June, Musk publicly posted critical statements about Trump, accusing him of ingratitude over the 2024 election, agreeing with calls for Trump's impeachment, and making other accusations related to Trump’s legislative actions and controversial files. This sparked a bitter public feud. Following this, Musk called Trump to convey regret for some of his posts, though he did not specify which ones.
Trump acknowledged Musk's apology, but the White House has remained noncommittal about whether their relationship has fully reconciled, emphasizing instead a focus on broader governance issues.
The feud has also seen Trump accuse Musk of having "Trump Derangement Syndrome," a term used to describe the alleged obsession among some critics to denounce or resist Trump.
Senator Thom Tillis, a GOP lawmaker who has faced criticism from Trump, expressed support for Musk's reelection bid. Tillis wrote that Musk understands the issue better than anyone and urged people to take his warnings seriously, resharing a Musk post that appeared to criticize the spending bill for targeting solar and battery tech.
Musk's recent tweet expressed regret over some of his "posts about President Donald Trump," which he said "went too far." Despite this, the tension between the two figures continues, with Trump mentioning the possibility of using a cost-cutting agency, DOGE, to investigate Musk and his companies.
The complex and evolving dynamic between Musk and Trump reflects a unique blend of tension and remnants of their previous cooperation earlier in the year. As the feud continues, it remains to be seen how their relationship will develop in the future.
