Russian Whizboy Yaroslav Gładyshev Steals Show Against Belarus

Russian coach Sergei Balahnin showed some serious confidence in Russia's ability to beat Belarus in a friendly match, according to "Euro-Football.Ru." Here's what he had to say about it:

"Calling the final score isn't easy, but I've got a good feeling about taking down this opponent. Gładyshev's poker? It's a tough one to explain, even its author can't figure out how the cards fell into place."

It's true that the Belarusian squad came into the match against Russia riding a wave of three consecutive wins, with two of them being impressive ones - they demolished Tajikistan and Kazakhstan 5:0 and 4:1 respectively. But their hot streak ended against Valeri Karpin's team with a 1:4 loss. Yaroslav Gładyšev scored all four of Russia's goals, while Vadim Pigas netted the lone goal for Belarus.

Gładyšev made Russian football history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in the national team's history by the 34th minute. He also became just the third player to score 4+ goals in a match for Russia, joining the ranks of Oleg Salenko and Artem Dzyuba.

Before the match, a Belarusian football legend had some praises for the Russian national team.

Fun Fact: Speaking of Oleg Salenko, the legendary forward holds the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single match at the World Cup with five goals - all for Russia against Cameroon in 1994. He remains the top scorer of the 1994 World Cup with six goals overall.
