Confident individual decorated with a handicap akin to a devil expresses self-assurance before the Ayr Silver Cup competition.

The Ayr race on Saturday features a fair big-field sprint handicap, with a host of horses vying for the coveted prize. Among them are some familiar faces and a few newcomers, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Roberto Caro, trained by Adrian Keatley, has been making waves since joining the yard. He has won three of his nine starts and will be competing from stall 23. Binhareer, a three-year-old in flying form, is another contender for the race. Trained by William Haggas, Binhareer has shown impressive form, winning a Class 4 over course and distance and hitting the frame in two competitive handicaps.

Binhareer's affinity for soft ground makes him a strong candidate, as any further rain won't bother him. The same can be said for Nariko, who has been beaten only once since needing soft ground and has won four races since. However, Nariko's race at Salisbury two weeks ago was abandoned, and it remains to be seen how he will perform on Saturday.

Rousing Encore, with a strong course record of a win and close second from two runs, is another horse to watch out for. Kieran Shoemark, jockey of Far Above Dream, is keen to ride the horse again after his impressive win at Goodwood. Far Above Dream is versatile in terms of ground and is expected to perform well.

Sergeant Wilko (stall 3) and Gweedore (stall 9) will also compete in the race. Sergeant Wilko has struggled in previous visits to Ayr, while Gweedore may need a longer distance. Katie Scott, trainer of Gweedore, expressed concerns about the top weight on this ground for her horse, but believes he will perform well at the track.

Silky Wilkie, last year's 66-1 Ayr Gold Cup runner-up, showed signs of a revival at York and will start from stall 1. Tim Palin, racing manager of Middleham Park Racing, owners of Silky Wilkie, believes the horse is well handicapped and could be a contender.

Richard Hughes, trainer of Sudden Flight, is hopeful about his three-year-old's performance in the race despite the high weight, as he believes the horse will love the ground. Adam Ryan, assistant to Kevin Ryan, trainer of Sergeant Wilko, is confident about the horse's chances due to his preference for soft ground and recent good form.

Rousing Encore (stall 11) may benefit from the competition provided by low-numbered horses as he performs well when held off a strong gallop. Hugo Palmer, trainer of Nariko, is satisfied with the horse's condition, and James Owen, trainer of Far Above Dream, is confident about the horse's chances in the Silver Cup.

With a diverse field of horses, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, the Ayr Silver Cup 2023 promises to be an exciting race. Stay tuned for updates and results!
