Conclusion of Fall Sports Season for Hellgate 2023-24 Athletic Campaign Reached
The Hellgate Knights, a prominent high school sports team in Montana, had a remarkable 2023-24 school year, with several teams excelling in their respective sports.
In soccer, the women's team broke records and made history. Senior Carmen Anderson, a key player, set a new Class AA record for career assists with 47. The team finished the season with a strong 14-2-1 record and qualified for the AA State title game for the first time in school history. Anderson also scored 21 regular season goals in 2023. The men's soccer team, meanwhile, lost to Billings West in the semifinals of the playoffs but still managed an impressive 10-3-1 record throughout the regular season, scoring 76 goals and allowing only 11.
The cross country team continued their winning streak, with the girls team successfully defending their state title. Five runners earned All-State honors, and all seven runners placed in the top fifty percent of athletes at the State meet. Junior Rylan Davis also made a significant impact, taking the snaps as QB1 for the first time in football.
The volleyball team, with a heavily junior-filled class, had a successful season. They won a match at the Bozeman round robin tournament and defeated Missoula Big Sky in an early season crosstown matchup. Junior setter Moana Massey led the team in sets, and junior libero Morgan Meissner led the team in digs.
The football team had a year of learning in 2023, with many young talents highlighted. Sophomores Parker Link, Vince Paffhausen, and Cooper Hogan led the Knights offensively. The team looks to build off of their 2023 season for a strong 2024 fall campaign.
The basketball team made it to the regional finals, earning recognition for their teamwork and resilience throughout the season. Several players received all-conference honors.
The track and field team produced multiple individual champions at regional meets, with some athletes qualifying for the state championships and setting personal bests.
The wrestling team continued its tradition of excellence by sending multiple wrestlers to state competition, with a few placing in the top rankings.
The Hellgate girls golf team won the MCPS invitational and placed inside the top-4 at the Western AA Divisional tournament, sending all four athletes to state. The boys team took two competitors to the state tournament through individual placement in Divisionals.
In golf, senior Anna Stensrud had an outstanding season. She placed inside the top-5 at each AA tournament and won three times, earning her a AA Western Divisional medal and a second straight All-State finish. She has signed to play golf collegiately for the University of Montana.
The Hellgate Knights continued to build on their legacy of competitive sportsmanship and teamwork in the 2023-24 school year. For the most detailed and up-to-date information, local school reports or the Hellgate High School athletics website would have the full season summaries.
The Hellgate Knights, with their interest in American-football, might aim to apply the lessons learned from their 2023 season to achieve a stronger showing in the NFL-style format during the 2024 fall campaign. In the spirit of the Knights' impressive records in other sports, sophomore football players Parker Link, Vince Paffhausen, and Cooper Hogan, much like senior Carmen Anderson in soccer, could strive to break records and set new standards within the realm of American-football.
