The G7 meetup with US Prez, Donald Trump, ain't gonna fork out a holistic joint statement, according to German government dipsticks in Berlin. Instead, we're expectin' a bunch of focused statements on particular subjects - migration, AI, quantum tech, wildfires, and rare earth elements, to name a few.

Don't count on joint docs about the Ukraine and Gaza wars or climate change either. Development aid? Forgettaboutit, too.

The G7 collective consists of Canada, the US, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Japan. Since Russia's exclusion in 2014 due to the Crimea annexation, the G7 see themselves as the value-sharing crew of major Western democra-cies. But since Trump took office, there's been a chasm between the US and the other six members on topics like the Ukraine war, climate change, and global trade.

Back in '18, Trump torchered the final declaration post-summit. This year, there's no comprehensive declaration unanimously approved of by all members for the first time since '18. Heck, even in '17 and '18, Trump contested or withdrew support from final statements over disagreements like climate change language and diplomatic jabs.

So, there you have it. With Trump's "America first" stance causing major friction and previous instances of disrupting joint statements, the summit's gonna produce individual leader statements on specific issues instead. Could be about economic security, trade relations, the Ukraine war, and geopolitical tussles involving China and Iran, among others.

In other words, the absence of a holistic joint statement is a result of the struggle in securing consensus with Trump's policies and behavior, which have disrupted G7 agreements in the past, leading the host country and other leaders to opt for a different strategy this time around.
