"Germany's Next Top Model" Final Eight Vie for the Crown

Six competitors vying for the monarch's throne - Competitors vying for the title in this competition

It's crunch time for the final eight models in "Germany's Next Topmodel" (Thursdays, 8:15 PM, ProSieben and on joyn). These resilient contenders step up to the plate in Los Angeles, battling it out in the last leg of their journey. With the finale just a stone's throw away, emotions are rife as they experience what it's like to conquer the cover of "Harper's Bazaar." But the question remains, who will grace the coveted cover and earn the title? Two unfortunate participants will face an agonizing exit, mere steps from the live finale. One contestant headlines the unfortunate cast-out due to a regrettable mistake during their final fashion escapade.

"Reflecting on the journey, we've come a long way"

The final eight reflect on their four-month journey on the show, nearing the end. They gathered together, amused but also moved by their casting videos, recalling how much they've grown. Daniela (20) marvels at "a whole new Dani," who transformed from a "perfect Barbie" into a confident and open-minded model. Pierre (22) sums it up: "We've experienced an unnatural growth. It's no wonder we made it to the semifinals." The camaraderie is palpable as they all cheer on Pierre's inspiring sentiment.

Camera-Ready Glam for the Cover Shoot

The winner of GNTM 2022 will have the privilege of gracing the cover of "Harper's Bazaar." This year's semi-final posing session has become tradition, providing all models an intimate taste of victory. Styled impeccably, they each pose charismatically in and around a sleek vintage car. Zoe initially feels as nervous as she did before her driving test, but you'd never guess when she nails her moves alongside Magdalena (21), Pierre, and Jannik. Kerstin Schneider, editor-in-chief of the German edition of the magazine, reflects on their polished demeanor: "There's a sparkle in their eyes. The cameras adore them."

Canel (26) and Eliob (29) falter in their performance. The Essen native struggles to find the right pose, taking longer than the others. The Austrian resident in Tokyo watches his competitor Moritz (19) and thinks, "I can also relax and look good in this car." However, the judges deem his monotonous expression lacking, commenting, "You had a chance to offer more." While the others shine, both push the envelope, which ultimately determines who will move on.

Eliob's Fatal Shopping Blunder

On the eve of the final fashion walk in Los Angeles, Heidi Klum equipped each model with $1,500 in handy cash for a shopping spree to acquire an outfit for both day and evening wear within two hours. Four females navigate the shopping destinations efficiently, while Pierre flounders in his self-professed shopping tour hell. Eliob, on the other hand, faces a different battle. He exhausts the two-hour time limit, seeking to splurge the entire $1,500 on expensive outfits. However, Eliob falls short as he miscalculates the pricing system: Sales tax on clothing is added at the checkout. When the total exceeds the budget, he's left with no choice but to abandon his chosen pieces at checkout.

Heidi Klum and Kerstin Schneider watch as the remaining models participate in the final walk to secure their place in the competition's finale. Zoe steals the show, exuding the spirit of sitcom star Peggy Bundy in her daring leopard attire, accompanied by a live orchestra playing Antonio Vivaldi. She gracefully transitions back into a society lady in an elegant evening gown. Meanwhile, Canel, despite an average performance, knows she must shine during the walk. However, Heidi isn't overly impressed, criticizing her self-chosen attire. Eliob's chiseled physique, devoid of clothing and shoes, leaves the judges in disbelief, raising questions about his impulsive shopping strategy for the finale.

Canel and Eliob Meet an Early Exit

"This year's models have been nothing short of exceptional," says Kerstin Schneider. Deciding upon the finalists is no easy task. The top four include Moritz (19) from Berlin and Daniela from Stuttgart, who vows, "I want the first place now, no stopping." The Vienna duo Magdalena and Pierre also earn their spot. The fate of the remaining male and female contestants hangs in the balance between Jannik and Eliob among the men and Zoe and Canel among the women.

Although the discipline of cleaning services had been Canel's previous profession in Germany, she leaves her mark on the industry throughout the season. Sadly, her journey ends just before the finale, but that won't deter her determination: "I'll continue to demonstrate who Canel truly is." Similarly, Eliob's journey comes to an end, as his costly shopping gaffe and inability to land model gigs cost him dearly. Regardless, the lovable Austrian takes his bow with gratitude, while Zoe and Jannik soldier on to compete for the title of "Germany's Next Topmodel" in the finale. 1 2 3
