The UCI Road World Championships 2025 is set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, and the men's time trial is shaping up to be an exciting event. Defending champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium is a favourite to win a third consecutive world title. He secured his third consecutive victory in the individual time trial at the 2025 Road World Championships, clinching the title in Kigali, Rwanda. The men's race covers 40.6km, compared to the women's 31.2km. The route includes several rolling climbs, mostly on wide roads. Riders will need to stay aerodynamic and manage their effort due to the 680 meters of climbing and 1500-meter altitude. The race starts inside the 10,000-seat BK Arena in central Kigali, with the finish line outside the Kigali Convention Centre. The elite men's time trial is held after the elite women's time trial. One rider to watch out for is Isaac del Toro from Mexico, who is considered a dark horse for the time trial. Del Toro recently won four races in Italy and may be able to maintain his form for the 40km time trial, despite potential struggles with aerodynamics. Another rising talent is Paul Seixas from France, who won the junior world championship and the Tour de L'Avenir in 2025. Seixas also won the opening prologue and final 10km mountain time trial of the Tour de L'Avenir. Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia is expected to challenge Evenepoel for the rainbow jersey. Pogacar is known for his climbing prowess and may be able to use the hilly course to his advantage. Magnus Sheffield from the USA may also finish in the top 10 or even higher at the UCI Road World Championships due to the absence of other riders. Bruno Armirail from France is the current French national champion in time trials, and Stefan Kung from Switzerland will represent Switzerland in the time trial, despite not being well-suited to the hilly course. Matteo Sobrero from Italy is suited to the hilly Kigali course and won the Italian time trial championship in 2021. Ivan Romeo from Spain is a young revelation in cycling and the current Spanish road race national champion. Romeo may be able to use his climbing skills to his advantage in the time trial. The UCI Road World Championships takes place on Sunday, September 22, and promises to be an exciting event for cycling fans.
