Competitor Vows To Compete at US Open Following Cincinnati Retirement Declaration
Jannik Sinner, the world number one tennis player, has withdrawn from the US Open 2025 mixed doubles tournament due to illness. His partner, Katerina Siniakova, was also affected by his condition, forcing them to pull out shortly before the tournament began. Their spot in the 16-team draw was taken by alternates Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison.
Sinner's withdrawal means that he has no record or upcoming matches in the US Open 2025 mixed doubles event. The event was scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 19, with the first two rounds that day, and semi-finals and finals on Wednesday, August 20.
Despite this setback, Sinner remains focused on the main draw of the US Open, which starts on Sunday. He has expressed his love for Grand Slams, stating they are the main tournaments for his season and career.
In a statement, Sinner confirmed that he will play at the US Open in New York. He also emphasised the importance of physical and mental readiness for the tournament. He plans on taking a couple of days for recovery before getting back to work for the US Open.
Sinner's preparation for the US Open has not been without challenges. He lost to Alcaraz in the US Open's mixed doubles tournament on Monday, going 5-0 down in the first set before conceding defeat. Despite this, Sinner remains optimistic about his chances in the singles main draw.
"The US Open is a tough tournament, but I'm looking forward to it," Sinner said. "I need to be physically and mentally ready to push in the US Open, and that's my current focus."
Sinner did not mention his participation in the mixed doubles in his statement, leaving his future involvement in that event uncertain. However, tennis fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to the court for the US Open main draw, which promises to be an exciting competition.
