Competitor Krause secures seventh place in obstacle contest; Weber earns a medal finish

In the sweltering heat of Tokyo, the World Athletics Championships continued on Friday with a day of mixed fortunes for the German athletes.

Julian Weber, the world's number one in the spear throw, managed 87.21 meters in the preliminary round but felt the effects of the hottest day of the championships more than expected. Weber, who is still recovering from an infection, stated that he is feeling better for a few days but is not at 100 percent. Despite this, he expressed readiness for the WM showdown.

In the men's 400-meter hurdles, besides Julian Weber, Leo Köpp (LG Nord Berlin) and Christopher Linke (SC Potsdam) represented Germany. Unfortunately, Weber failed to qualify for the final, finishing the race in 49.83 seconds. Frank Busemann, an Atlanta silver medallist, supported Weber's performance.

Emil Agyekum, on the other hand, qualified for the 400m hurdles final with a time of 47.83 seconds, breaking the 48-second barrier. If successful in the final, Agyekum could become the fourth German javelin throw world champion.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Elena Kelety ran a personal best of 54.61 seconds but finished 15th. Eileen Demes failed to qualify for the final, finishing 24th with a time of 55.98 seconds.

Isaac Nader from Portugal won the 1500m final with a time of 3:34.10 minutes, while Robert Farken, from Leipzig, finished sixth with a time of 3:35.15 minutes.

The women's 3000m hurdles saw several falls, with Doris Lemngole (Kenya) and Norah Jeruto (Kazakhstan) falling in the finish, and Peruth Chemutai (Uganda) falling and being out of the race. Faith Cherotich (Kenya) won the event with a time of 8:51.59 minutes. Gesa Krause, a two-time European champion, finished seventh with a season best of 9:14.27 minutes.

Owe Fischer-Breiholz, the U23 European Champion, had to withdraw due to injury. The German Athletics Federation, with three silver medals won so far, could enhance its record at the World Athletics Championships.

As the championships progress, Performance Sports Director Jörg Bügner predicts more emotional moments, exciting competitions, and potential surprises in the second half of the World Championships.
