Competitor Krause places seventh in dramatic obstacle race, with Weber securing a medal position.

The fourth day of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo saw a mix of triumphs, near misses, and promising performances from German athletes.

In the women's 3000m steeplechase final, Gesa Krause, a two-time European champion, placed seventh with a season's best of 9:14.27 minutes. Tragedy struck for Uganda's Peruth Chemutai, who fell out before the final water jump. Faith Cherotich from Kenya claimed the gold with a time of 8:51.59 minutes.

Robert Farken from Leipzig finished sixth in the men's 1500m final, marking his best season with a time of 3:35.15 minutes. Isaac Nader from Portugal clinched the victory with a time of 3:34.10 minutes, just edging out the field. Emil Agyekum impressively qualified for the 400m hurdles final, breaking the 48-second barrier with a time of 47.83 seconds, just behind legendary Harald Schmid. Unfortunately, U23 European Champion Owe Fischer-Breiholz had to withdraw from the 400m hurdles due to injury.

Julian Weber, the 2022 European champion, aims to end his streak of fourth places at global championships. Weber qualified second for the javelin final with a throw of 87.21 meters and is currently the world's number one javelin thrower with a throw of 91.51 meters. However, he admitted that the hot and humid conditions have affected his performance. Frank Busemann, an Atlanta silver medalist, provided Weber with some breathing room in the javelin final after recovering from a virus infection.

Eileen Demes failed to qualify for the 400m hurdles final, finishing 24th in 55.98 seconds. Elena Kelety ran a personal best of 54.61 seconds in the 400m hurdles, finishing 15th. Doris Lemngole from Kenya and Norah Jeruto from Kazakhstan fell in the finish of the same race.

Jörg Bügner, Performance Sports Director, predicts more emotional moments, exciting competitions, and perhaps even a few surprises in the second half of the World Championships. The DLV, the German Athletics Association, has won three silver medals at the World Championships so far, more than at the 2022 World Championships in the USA.

As the championships continue, German athletes will strive to compete at their best and bring home more medals for their country. Stay tuned for updates on the remaining events.
