Competitive handicap features a mixture of inexperienced three-year-olds and seasoned experts, with the latter boasting the three-year-old in top form.
In the upcoming race, the spotlight is on Remmooz, a three-year-old horse trained by Owen Burrows. Burrows believes this race is the ideal choice for his horse after its recent win, and Remmooz will be aiming to defy a 4lb rise and top weight, having only suffered one defeat in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Remmooz's only defeat was overshadowed by its impressive comeback, as it won its first handicap over the course and distance last month. The only other three-year-old in this year's line-up, Remmooz will be facing some seasoned competitors.
Among them is Bullet Point, heading the overnight market for this race after its strong second-place finish at Ascot. Trainer William Haggas is confident that Bullet Point will handle the round track well, given its good draw to be on the pace.
Other contenders include Sisyphean, who finished second to Remmooz in the course-and-distance handicap but has since struggled in a hot race at Ascot. Adam Ryan, assistant to Kevin, trainer of Apiarist and Sisyphean, believes Sisyphean had excuses at Ascot.
Meanwhile, Roger Fell, trainer of La Trinidad, is optimistic about his horse's chances, stating that it's in the best form, but admits that the three-year-olds look hard to beat. The owner of La Trinidad, however, is a big fan of York, the racecourse where the event will take place.
Group horses have a history in this race, with Mustashry finishing second as a three-year-old in 2016. George Margarson, trainer of Mythical Guest, is another trainer targeting this race, having won it two years ago with Ropey Guest.
Ed Bethell, trainer of Old Cock, also sees Remmooz as a formidable opponent, stating that his horse, Old Cock, will be thereabouts again, taking on Remmooz and Bullet Point. The eight three-year-olds that have participated in the race over the last ten years have beaten an average of 53% of their rivals, while older horses reach only 50%.
However, it's worth noting that the race has been won by three-year-olds only once in the last ten years. Nine out of the last ten winners were four or older, a factor that could potentially favour the older horses in the race.
With Remmooz aiming to defy the odds and the experienced competitors ready to challenge, the upcoming race promises to be an exciting event.
