Competitive Biathlon Event Led by Rani at Kaiakeakua Beach, Also Known as Peaman's Double Race
Young Mechanical Engineering Student Wins Peaman Double Biathlon
Archer Ankrum, a recent graduate from Kealakehe High School, has made a splash in the world of sports. The Holualoa resident is heading to Columbia University in New York City to major in mechanical engineering, but he's already making waves back home. Ankrum recently dominated the Peaman Double Biathlon, securing the overall win.
The Peaman Double Biathlon, held at Kaiakeakua Beach in Kailua-Kona, attracted over 80 biathletes. The event, designed by Sean "Peaman" Pagett, is a challenging test of grit and pacing, involving swimming and biking. Athletes were required to swim 1/3 mile in Kailua Bay, run two miles on Alii Drive, and repeat the process.
The weather during the event was picture-perfect, with clear blue skies and calm water conditions. The initial swim and run were deceptive, with smooth transitions and quick turnover on the run. However, some athletes found their legs feeling like concrete during the second lap, and arms that were once swift in the water became heavy and sluggish for others.
Despite these challenges, Ankrum maintained his lead, winning the event with a time that will surely go down in local history. He also won Saturday's Volcano Ohia Lehua 5K Run with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds.
The event was intended to be fun and challenging, encouraging athletes to do their best. Some participants were seasoned triathletes, while others were weekend warriors and first timers. A few athletes experienced cramping during the second lap, but the spirit of camaraderie and competition was palpable throughout the event.
