Competition in Pampulha to aid in planting 11,000 trees across Sierra Verde
The 13th edition of the Cooperation Run, a popular street race event, is set to take place in Belo Horizonte on Sunday, 20th of July, 2025. The event will be held at Nova Pampulha Square, a prominent location in the city centre.
This year's Cooperation Run offers a variety of courses, including 5 km, 10 km courses, and a 3 km walk, catering to participants of all abilities. The race aims to create a cooperative forest in Belo Horizonte, with approximately 11,000 native trees set to be planted in partnership with the Instituto Estadual de Florestas (IEF).
Participants are required to contribute two kilos of non-perishable food and R$ 50 for registration. The collected funds will be used to reforest 10 hectares of Parque Estadual Serra Verde, a significant contribution towards the park's flora reconstruction.
The event is committed to promoting environmental and social inclusion aspects. In line with this, participants will be encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and minimize plastic use. The Cooperation Run will also welcome 241 athletes with disabilities, with the Huracan Team from Sete Lagoas, a prominent Paralympic athletics team, participating in the event.
The Pernas de Aluguel project will also be part of the event, allowing volunteers to push adapted wheelchairs for participants with motor and/or cognitive disabilities, further emphasizing the event's commitment to inclusivity.
Participants who complete any of these routes will receive recognition medals. Registrations for the event are open until Saturday, July 19. For more details, check local event calendars, running clubs in Belo Horizonte, or social media platforms for event promotions.
During the Cooperation Run on Sunday, 20th of July, 2025, participants will not only engage in sports as they race through Belo Horizonte, but also contribute to the science of environmental-science. The initiative aims to plant 11,000 native trees in partnership with the Instituto Estadual de Florestas (IEF), promoting reforestation and supporting the health of Parque Estadual Serra Verde.
