Competition: Here's where you gain dominance
In a bid to curb aggressive driving and promote road safety, several German states are participating in the annual "Speedweek" event from August 4-10, 2025. This Europe-wide campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and intensify speed controls at key traffic points across the participating states.
However, it's important to note that some states, such as Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Thuringia, and Saarland, are not taking part in this year's action.
In Saxony-Anhalt, police have been focusing on major autobahn stretches, particularly those with speed limits of 120 km/h, where excessive speeds over 300 km/h were recorded. Other federal states, while unspecified, are also actively involved in the Speedweek, targeting key roads for intensified speed trap enforcement.
In southern Hesse, police are using civilian forces and focusing on country roads and dangerous spots near schools and senior homes. Some police headquarters in Rhineland-Palatinate may also participate beyond those already mentioned.
In Saxony, school routes are a focus due to the end of school holidays. In Lower Saxony, police in Oldenburg and Osnabrück want to intensify their monitoring throughout the Speedweek.
In contrast to previous years, there is no specific speed trap day this year. Instead, the entire week will be monitored with relatively uniform intensity. Despite fewer states participating compared to the spring, drivers are advised to remain vigilant about speed limits.
In Hamburg, authorities are keeping quiet about the focus areas and specific locations. Similarly, in North Rhine-Westphalia, police are focusing on accident hotspots and speeding routes, with each of the 47 district police authorities deciding themselves when and to what extent they will participate.
Schleswig-Holstein's police will focus on aggressive driving behavior in addition to excessive speed during the Speedweek. Particular caution is advised in Hannover and the surrounding area from Wednesday onwards, with streets near hospitals, senior homes, bus stops, and construction sites in focus.
In Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt, the focus areas and specific locations remain unspecified. The same applies to Rhineland-Palatinate, Ludwigshafen, Trier, and Koblenz police headquarters.
Lastly, in Brandenburg, police are focusing on motorcyclists, particularly targeting roads outside of towns with an avenue-like character.
