European Championship Elimination: Unsuccessful Revenge Attempt for Wickler/Ehlers at the European Championship - Competition for the second round of the Olympics has been cancelled.

In a closely contested match at the Düsseldorf Rochusclub, Olympic champions David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig emerged victorious over Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler in the Beach Volleyball European Championships. The scores were 21:19 and 21:16 in favour of Ahman and Hellvig.

Ehlers and Wickler had been aiming for another medal in the European Championships, having previously competed in the Paris final. Despite their elimination, the duo has secured a spot in the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, as confirmed by multiple sources around the time of the Düsseldorf European Championships [2][3][4].

The loss was a rematch of the Paris final, with Ehlers and Wickler holding their own against the favourites, especially in the first set. However, a decisive second set saw Ahman and Hellvig pull ahead 17:11, securing the win.

Nils Ehlers was playing with an injury to his right shoulder, which may have affected their performance. The team had been hoping to compete in the World Championships this year, with a third-place finish securing them a spot in the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia. Unfortunately, their elimination from the European Championships means they will miss out on this opportunity.

It is worth noting that David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig, their opponents, are the Olympic champions from the Paris 2024 Games. Previously, Ehlers and Wickler were runners-up in the Beach Volleyball European Championships. The Championships in Düsseldorf were not the first time Ehlers and Wickler competed in Germany, having previously competed in Hamburg.

Looking ahead, the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, are scheduled for November. Despite their elimination from the European Championships, Ehlers and Wickler will have another chance to compete on the global stage in 2025.

The Commission, in the midst of their duties, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment. After their loss at the Düssleroff Rochusclub, Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler, the runners-up of the Beach Volleyball European Championships, showed their commitment to sports by focusing on their preparation for the 2025 World Championships in Singapore.
