Competition emerges between Büsum and Grömitz at the "Sun, Sand, and Stars 2025" event
In a thrilling coastal showdown, the picturesque town of Grömitz emerged victorious in the NDR Festival Challenge 2024 against its rival, Büsum. The competition, held over two days in July, brought together teams from both locations for an exciting series of games that celebrated the rich culture and history of Schleswig-Holstein.
The festival, which kicked off in Grömitz on July 4th, was part of the town's "Sun, Beach & Stars" event, running from Wednesday to Sunday. Visitors could find more information about the festival and other NDR Schleswig-Holstein events on the NDR Schleswig-Holstein app and at ndr.de/sh.
The NDR Festival Challenge involved three games: the Telephone on the Beach, the Hula-Hoop Challenge, and the Baltic-North Sea Quiz. In the Telephone on the Beach, points were awarded for each correct word in a sentence that travelled through the audience. The Hula-Hoop Challenge saw points awarded to the location whose participants could travel a hoop the fastest. The Baltic-North Sea Quiz tested teams' knowledge about their respective locations, with each correct answer earning five points.
In the Baltic-North Sea Quiz, teams consisting of the mayors and tourism directors of Grömitz and Büsum went head-to-head. The Music Quiz, played by the two mayors and their guests, awarded five points for recognizing the correct title. In the Beach Chair Challenge, both teams, including the mayors, tourism directors, and audience guests, raced to set up NDR beach chairs. The faster team earned 10 points, while the slower team received 5 points.
On July 12th, the festival moved to the North Sea health resort of Büsum, with Mayor Oliver Kumbartzky and Tourism Director Robert Kowitz hosting the event. The German pop band Marquess took the stage on the tidal flat tribune around 9 PM, providing an exciting musical climax to the day's events.
