First Mate's Log – Day 1

Welcome aboard! The Moorings and their guests set sail for Bermuda, eager to witness this remarkable event up close and personal. The America's Cup shook things up with new competitors, fabulous racing formats, and sleek AC50 class boats, capable of churning up some wave-whipping speeds.

As if that wasn't enough, the dazzling America's Cup Village and the vibrant Emirates Victory Celebration ensured that every moment of this incredible adventure was one to remember. Let's raise a glass to the perfect combination of breathtaking sailing and unforgettable island fun.

Close Quarters – Round Robin Racing

From the gun, the competitors went all in: Oracle Team USA, Emirates Team New Zealand, Softbank Team Japan, Artemis Racing (Sweden), Land Rover BAR, and Groupama (France). The America's Cup Village was the center stage for cheerleaders, spectators, and nautical enthusiasts alike, as they watched with bated breath as these skilled sailors went head-to-head in the round-robin preliminaries.

What a rush to see those high-flying cats come barreling straight at us at warp speed, marvels Mark Pillsbury, editor of Cruising World Magazine. Indeed, the racing was electrifying – and those aboard a spectator catamaran scored the best possible view of the high-octane action.

Old School Returning to Victory

By the final series, it was clear that Team Emirates New Zealand had wowed the crowd and the competition alike as they took home the world's oldest trophy. The Kiwis delivered an impressive comeback from their 2013 loss to Oracle Team USA, notching a well-deserved 7-1 victory in the America's Cup Match.

In the wake of this triumph, we can all look forward to more breathtaking sailing action as Bermuda celebrates a return to the international spotlight. Special thanks to the America's Cup organisers for inviting The Moorings to join in on all the fun – and to Bermuda for welcoming our crews and guests with open arms.

A Sailor's Loyalty

As five-time winner of the America's Cup, Russell Coutts declared that the island was not only a spectacular sailing venue, but also the perfect backdrop for an extraordinary event. Sign us up for the next experience, Russell! In the meantime, we hope you'll enjoy this glimpse into our favorite sights, sounds, and moments of the 25 America's Cup.

Tales from the High Seas

We can't forget to share some incredible stories from our dear guests and crew alike! For example, here's a rave review from Mark S.:

My wife and I were guests of Lizzy and Mike on Bucephalus, cruising from May 26 to June 1. We had a fabulous time sailing, anchoring, watching the races, and of course eating incredibly well. Our captains were exceptionally talented sailors and gracious hosts – and chefs, to boot! We thoroughly enjoyed our time on board, and highly recommend Lizzy and Mike to anyone considering a Moorings yachting adventure.

Better still, check out this delightful video of some AC Endeavour Junior Regatta competitors (and guests of The Moorings!) engaged in a thoughtful – and quite civilized – debate about who would ultimately take home the prize. Aren't we lucky to find ourselves part of such a lively sailing community?
