Competing alongside Rani at Kaiakeakua Beach: Peaman engages in a thrilling double biathlon event
The Peaman Double Biathlon: A Test of Endurance and Precision
The Peaman Double Biathlon, held at Kaiakeakua Beach in Kailua-Kona, recently challenged over 80 athletes in a unique competition that combined running and shooting. This event, organised by Sean "Peaman" Pagett, is designed to be both fun and challenging, pushing participants to do their best.
The competition began with a swimming segment of 1/3 mile in Kailua Bay. The first loop saw some athletes maintaining clean swim strokes, smooth transitions, and a quick turnover on the run. However, as the competitors moved into the second lap, even the strongest swimmers found it difficult to maintain form. Some athletes also reported experiencing cramping during this stage.
Following the swim, the athletes embarked on a two-mile run along Alii Drive. Some participants, despite being seasoned triathletes, found their legs feeling heavy and their arms sluggish during the second loop. However, others returned for the second loop still feeling fresh.
The event then moved to the shooting phase, where accuracy was key. The athletes were required to hit targets from a specific distance. Competitors in the second lap found this particularly challenging, with penalties or extra distance added for missed shots, affecting overall time.
The Peaman Double Biathlon winner this year was Holualoa's Archer Ankrum, a recent graduate of Kealakehe High School who is heading to Columbia University in New York City to major in mechanical engineering. Archer dominated the event, showing impressive endurance and precision.
Archer Ankrum also won the Volcano Ohia Lehua 5K Run on the same day with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds.
The event, which took place under clear blue skies and calm water conditions, was a test of grit and pacing. Despite the challenges, the spirit of camaraderie among the athletes was palpable.

Despite the Peaman Double Biathlon primarily focusing on running and shooting, the event also had a surprising twist - a hockey match was included in the second lap of the run. The exhausted athletes, already struggling with heavy legs and sluggish arms, had to navigate through a mini-hockey rink set up in the middle of the route.
