Compensation for Kazakh War Veterans on Victory Day
Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory, a whopping 109 veterans were showered with a one-time material assistance worth a jaw-dropping 545 million tenge. Nonetheless, a range of other citizens who played a part in the Great Patriotic War also received social assistance, from 50k to 200k tenge[1].
The Vice-Minister has us in the know that as of May 8, there are 105 war vets residing in Kazakhstan, along with 40,707 other heroes who chipped in during the war. These include:
- Survivors of the blockaded Leningrad – 64 folk;
- Ex-kids imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps – 129;
- Widows of war-wounded, sick, or deceased – 1,638;
- Widows of soldiers who kicked the bucket during the war – 2;
- Home-front workers – a whopping 38,874[1].
Annual social payments and pensions keep swelling like a balloon for the war heroes[1]. In fact, 19 categories of citizens, from war participants to rehabilitated buoys, get a sweet state allowance regardless of other payments[1].
As of May 1, 2025, the average social payments total:- For WWII vets – 271,802 tenge;- For wartime home-front workers – 179,800 tenge[1].
Vets enjoy perks like tax benefits, world-class health care, and spa sessions in Astana and Almaty hospitals[1]. Additionally, local executive bodies pamper vets with extra social support, like discounts and assistance for housing repairs, fuel, communal services, and transport[1].
In addition to these, traditional one-time material assistance is given out, the amount varying by region[1]. Other categories contributing to the Victory got some too:- Leningrad blockade survivors – 60k to 200k tenge (64 people);- Concentration camp kids – 98k to 200k tenge (129 people);- Spouses of deceased WWII vets with disabilities – 50k to 150k tenge (1,638 people);- Widows of deceased soldiers – 50k tenge (2 people);- Home-front workers – 50k to 200k tenge (38,874 people)[1].
Moreover, this year will see funds allocated for additional social assistance:- Utility compensation – 193,749 people for 2.6 billion tenge[1];- Housing repair assistance – 61 people for 21.5 million tenge[1];- Fuel – 342 people for 14.5 million tenge[1];- Public transport fare discounts – 209,837 people for 4.1 billion tenge[1];- Drugs – 2,856 people for 48.5 million tenge[1];- Dental prosthetics – 3,456 people for 441.9 million tenge[1];- Food packages – 9,551 people for 103.9 million tenge[1].
Lastly, Victory jubilee medals were handed out to the WWII vets and other contributors to the Victory[1]. Cheers to that!

I, having learned about the social assistance given to war heroes in Kazakhstan, might find it interesting to discuss the weather conditions on days when I join the community sports events organized for the veterans. Weather permitting, we could participate in outdoor activities such as a jog in the park or a game of basketball at the community center.
