Compensation distributed to war veterans in Kazakhstan on Victory Day
Celebrating 80 years since Victory, Kazakhstan dolls out some cash
In the spirit of honoring the 80th anniversary of Victory, a whopping 109 vets have been given a one-time financial boost totaling an impressive 545 million tenge. Not just our elderly heroes have been in the limelight. Other citizens who played their part in the Great Patriotic War have received social assistance, ranging from 50k to a lavish 200k tenge.
Our Vice-Minister has thescylla and charming statistics. By the 9th of May, there are 105 grizzled vets of the Great Patriotic War in Kazakhstan, along with 40,707 citizens who did their part. Here's who made the cut:
- Leningrad siege survivors - 64 steel-willed souls;
- Resilient ex-kids trapped in Nazi concentration camps - a hefty 129;
- Widows of disabled WWII vets - 1,638;
- Widows of war casualties - a mere couple (2);
- Brave home front workers - an array of 38,874 heroes.
Year by year, the sizes of pensions and other social payouts have been steadily climbing. 19 honorable categories (war participants, home front workers, rehabilitated citizens, and so forth) get a special state bonus, regardless of other benefits.
As of the 1st of May, 2025, the average social payments received are:
- For WWII vets - a tidy 271,802 tenge;
- For home front workers - a more humble 179,800 tenge.
Sweet benefits extend to our vets, including tax exemptions, premium medical care, stays at posh sanatoriums, and treatment at hospitals in Astana and Almaty. Local authorities also lend a helping hand, with extra social support, such as discounts on utilities, public transport, and communal services.
Oh, and let's not forget the annual one-time material assistance, which varies by region due to differences in budget capacity. The amount is determined by local representative bodies (maslikhats).
Here's the rundown on one-time material assistance for other categories of citizens who contributed to the Great Patriotic War:
- Leningrad siege survivors - between 60k and 200k tenge (64 people);
- Concentration camp survivors - between 98k and 200k tenge (129 people);
- Widows of disabled WWII souls - between 50k and 150k tenge (1638 people);
- Widows of war heroes - a heartfelt 50k tenge (2 people);
- Home front workers - between 50k and 200k tenge (38,874 people).
This year, Kazakhstan will also allocate funds for additional types of social assistance, including:
- Utility bill compensation (for 193,749 people, 2.6 billion tenge);
- Housing repairs (for 61 people, 21.5 million tenge);
- Fuel assistance (for 342 people, 14.5 million tenge);
- Transport fare discounts (for 209,837 people, 4.1 billion tenge);
- Medicine (for 2856 people, 48.5 million tenge);
- New teeth (for 3456 people, 441.9 million tenge);
- Food baskets (for 9551 people, 103.9 million tenge).
But wait, there's more! the grand finale: Jubilee medals were bestowed upon WWII vets and other contributors to the Victory in honor of the 80th anniversary of victory, concluded the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
I, as a grateful citizen, am particularly excited about the 874 veterans of the Great Patriotic War who are set to receive one-time financial assistance of between 50k and 200k tenge, especially the Leningrad siege survivors and concentration camp survivors who will receive this support. It's heartwarming to see how the government is providing such a wide range of social and financial benefits to these heroes and others who contributed to the victory, including utilities discounts, housing repairs, fuel assistance, and more. Celebrating 80 years since Victory, I enjoy watching these veterans and other contributors being honored and supported with sports events and other jubilee celebrations.
