Honda, the renowned automobile manufacturer, has introduced a new variant of its popular Shine 100 model - the Shine 100 DX. This upgraded version boasts several design updates, modern features, and improved specifications.

Price

The Shine 100 DX comes with a price tag of ₹74,959 (ex-showroom), which is ₹6,000 more than the base Shine 100 priced at ₹68,862 (ex-showroom).

Design & Visuals

The DX variant sports subtle cosmetic updates such as a chrome garnish on the headlamp, a chrome muffler cover, blacked-out finishes on the engine and grab rail, and refreshed graphics. It is available in four colours - black, red, blue, and grey - compared to the Shine 100’s five colours.

Features

The Shine 100 DX features tubeless tires, a departure from the tube-type tires used in the base model. It also sports an LCD instrument cluster, a feature taken from its larger sibling, the Shine 125, displaying real-time fuel efficiency, distance to empty, and service reminders. However, it lacks a gear position indicator.

Another notable feature is the side-stand engine cut-off switch, enhancing rider safety, a feature not found in the standard model. The DX model also has a slightly larger fuel tank capacity of 10 litres compared to the Shine 100’s 9 litres.

Specifications

Both models share the same 98.98cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 7.28 bhp at 7,500rpm and 8.04 Nm torque at 5,000rpm, mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The DX variant weighs 103 kg, 4 kg heavier than the 99 kg Shine 100, mainly due to the larger fuel tank.

Brakes & Suspension

Both models use drum brakes front and rear, telescopic forks at the front, and new 5-step adjustable twin rear shocks on the diamond-type frame. No ABS is present on either model.

In summary, the Shine 100 DX upgrades the base Shine 100 with modern features like tubeless tires, an LCD display, side-stand cut-off, a larger fuel tank, and cosmetic enhancements, with an increased price reflecting these additions. Mechanically, both models are largely identical.

The Shine 100 DX's price places it in the vicinity of more premium models such as the Hero Splendor. Its LCD instrument cluster, tubeless tires, and safety features justify the extra cost compared to the standard model. The DX variant comes in four colours, each with new graphics.

The Shine 100 DX, unlike its base version, offers an exciting addition to the sports section with its incorporation of tubeless tires, just like in many hockey games where the ball is also played on tubeless surfaces for better control.
