South Kohala Youth Boxing Event Strengthens Community Ties
The South Kohala Community Policing Section and HI-PAL recently hosted a successful youth-focused event, the South Kohala Youth Boxing event, at the Thelma Parker Gymnasium in Waimea on July 19, 2025.
The event, supported by the community, boxing clubs, and partners such as D.A.R.E. Hawai‘i, Waimea School, Be On the Look Out Promotions, and Hawai'i International Boxing Club, brought together young athletes, families, and supporters for a day of friendly competition, healthy activities, and positive engagement.
Eight bouts were held, with boys and girls aged 12 to 17 participating. The excitement was palpable, with Skylar Alvarado and Isaiah Lee being awarded the "Fight of the Night" for their most exciting match. Daycen Ah Chong, however, was the standout performer of the night, earning the "Fighter of the Night" award for exceptional technique, heart, and determination.
The South Kohala Youth Boxing event is more than just a sports event; it serves as a valuable community-building platform.
