Committee reports on election results:
The city of Aachen is set for a runoff election in its mayoral race, with Michael Ziemons and Sibylle Keupen as the remaining candidates. The announcement was made by election supervisor Dr. Markus Kremer at a recent committee meeting.
The runoff election will take place on September 28th, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The decision to hold a runoff was made due to the results of the initial election held on September 14th, as no candidate received more than half of the valid votes.
According to the city's election committee, a total of 108,175 valid votes were cast in the initial election. Michael Ziemons received the highest number of votes, with 43,860, while Sibylle Keupen followed closely behind with 35,587 votes.
The Municipal Election Act of Aachen states that a runoff election is required when no candidate achieves a majority in the initial vote. This ensures that the winner of the mayoral race truly represents the majority of Aachen's voters.
The winner of the runoff election will be announced on September 28th, bringing an end to the mayoral race in the historic city of Aachen. The search results do not currently contain information about who will emerge victorious in the runoff election.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Aachen mayoral race as we approach the runoff election on September 28th.
