Municipal Elections in Marl: Terhorst and Arndt to Face Off in Run-off
The municipal elections in Marl, Germany, took place on a day marked by high voter turnout and intense competition. A total of 65,406 citizens were eligible to vote, and approximately 54% exercised their right to do so.
In the mayoral election, Thomas Terhorst (CDU/FDP) received the most votes, accounting for 43.28% of the 34,928 valid votes cast. The incumbent mayor, Werner Arndt of the SPD, followed closely with 31.30% of the votes. As neither candidate achieved an absolute majority, a run-off election between Terhorst and Arndt will take place on September 28.
The run-off election for the district administrator position will also be held on the same day, with Bodo Klimpel (CDU/FDP) and Dr. Karsten Schneider (SPD) as candidates.
Michael Lauche, the election officer and deputy mayor, expressed his gratitude to the 500 election helpers for their dedication in organising the elections. He also noted that around 15,000 voters cast their ballots by mail.
