This captivating event, happening the eve before the Kaiser-Otto-Prize award ceremony, is especially designed for enthusiasts of international relations, Eastern European politics, and those yearning to dive deeper into the Kaiser-Otto-Prize.
The Kaiser-Otto-Prize is a trailblazer in recognizing dedication to fostering European understanding and ideals. This year, our laureates, renowned violinist Lisa Batiashvili and pianist Igor Levit, will be celebrated for their tireless efforts in battling war and antisemitism.
Our special guest, Christian Pernhorst, a Foreign Office official with rich experience in Eastern European affairs, will lay the groundwork for the Town Hall Talk. Having worked in the German embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, and various Eastern European divisions of the Foreign Office and the Federal Chancellery, he's an expert in his field. Adding to his repertoire, Pernhorst spent time at NATO in Brussels, where he focused on Eastern European security issues.
We're also thrilled to have Igor Tuluzov, the inspiring director of the Kharkiv Opera, Ukraine, join us via video link. Despite the ongoing conflict, Tuluzov continues to keep the opera alive and is ready to share his profound insights on the unifying power of art and culture during times of war, death, and destruction. A lively discussion with Prof. Manuela Schwartz, rector of the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, will steer the course of the conversation.
