Wirtz Clears Up Liverpool Transfer Rumors

In a recent Instagram post, German football powerhouse Florian Wirtz addressed contract talks with Liverpool FC, setting the record straight about a misconception. "Don't believe everything you read," Wirtz, the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star, commented on the claims that he desires the number 10 jersey, currently donned by Alexis Mac Allister. He concluded the post with a playful clown face emoji.
Previously, Sky reported that Wirtz had expressed an interest in the number 10, reminiscent of Liverpool legends like Michael Owen and Sadio Mane who have worn the jersey before Mac Allister.
The future of Wirtz at Liverpool remains uncertain. As of now, discussions between the English champions and Bayer Leverkusen have not led to an agreement. According to German publication "Kicker", the Bundesliga club turned down Liverpool's second offer of €118 million upfront plus €12 million in bonuses. The initial offer from Liverpool was reportedly €100 million plus €15 million in additional payments.
Bayer's management is reportedly holding out for a bid of over €150 million, the minimum amount that was publicly named by general manager Fernando Carro.
Wirtz will be suiting up for Germany tonight in Munich for the Nations League semi-final against Portugal, where he'll be wearing the number 17.
