Lukas Hradecky Joins AS Monaco on Two-Year Deal
Lukas Hradecky, the Finnish international goalkeeper and former captain of Bayer Leverkusen, has officially completed his transfer to AS Monaco on a two-year deal, with an option for an additional year. The transfer fee involved is reported to be between €3-4 million.
Hradecky's departure from Leverkusen follows the acquisition of Mark Flekken, who was signed by the German club from English club FC Brentford this summer. Flekken is now set to be Leverkusen's new first-choice keeper for the 2025-26 season.
During his seven-year stint at Leverkusen, Hradecky played 286 games and captained the team to a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in the 2023-24 season. His departure leaves a vacancy for a new backup goalkeeper at Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, AS Monaco, a French club, is expected to provide Hradecky with the opportunity to play as the number one goalkeeper, particularly in the Champions League. Hradecky had been considering the move to regain his starting spot, especially in Europe's premier club competition.
While the transfer of Hradecky to Monaco has been confirmed, the transfer of goalkeeper Janis Blaswich from RB Leipzig to Bayer Leverkusen is still not finalised. Blaswich, who is currently under contract with Leipzig until 2026, is expected to undergo a medical check on Friday.
Several media outlets had previously reported on Leverkusen's interest in Blaswich, but the transfer fee for the 34-year-old goalkeeper is said to be a fixed €2 million. If the deal goes through, Blaswich would be a backup goalkeeper at Leverkusen, replacing Hradecky.
It's important to note that the transfer of Blaswich to Leverkusen is not related to the transfer of Flekken from Leverkusen to Monaco. The Dutchman Flekken is not related to the transfer of Blaswich.
In the meantime, AS Monaco is welcoming Hradecky, who is close to joining the French club, and Bayer Leverkusen is looking forward to the addition of Blaswich, should the transfer be confirmed.
Hradecky is expected to play as the number one goalkeeper for AS Monaco in the Champions League, as he seeks to regain his starting spot in Europe's premier club competition. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, is anticipating the addition of Janis Blaswich, should the transfer be finalized, as he would become a backup goalkeeper at the club.
