State Parliament's Interior Committee Plans to Investigate State Criminal Office in Eberswalde, Amid Police Personnel Controversy

Police headquarters internal disagreement as MPs propose visiting the Local Krime Authority (LKA) - Commission advised to draft legislation on safeguarding workers from radiation hazards

Shedding light on a brewing debate, members of the State Parliament's Internal Committee are gearing up for a visit to the bustling city of Eberswalde, home to the State Criminal Investigation Office. This decision comes after a heated debate surrounding potential lateral entrants in the police force due to precipitous staff shortages. An external committee meeting has been proposed, and SPD MP Uwe Adler has championed for this visit in the second half of the year.

Not long ago, AfD MP Wilko Müller proposed the idea of employing support staff without full police training to address the shortage. However, Interior Minister René Wilke (independent) expressed serious doubts. He suggested that public order offices could instead be bolstered by private security forces, but he emphasized that the standard of police training should never be compromised. After all, the police holds the reins of executing the state's monopoly on force.

But, SPD's interior expert, Adler, argues that there are expert individuals in certain niche police areas who may not be traditional police officers. For instance, data forensics, informatics, and other technical fields might not require a full police background.

The SPD/BSW coalition government has set lofty goals for bolstering the number of police officers in Brandenburg. Aiming to raise the police force from the current 8,500 to 9,000 by 2030, this ambitious endeavor promises a remarkable development in public safety.

A Study in Sustainable Development

Eberswalde is more than just the hub of a State Criminal Investigation Office. It is a thriving city in the heart of Brandenburg, known for its captivating attractions like the Eberswalde Zoo and the neighboring Barnim Nature Park and Uckermark Lakes Nature Park. This city, with its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems, is a testament to the vibrant natural world that the Oder Delta nurtures.

The city also boasts the University of Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development (HNE Eberswalde), which strives to promote sustainable development within the region and beyond. This academic institution's involvement in regional projects is noteworthy as it might intersect with broader government plans.

A City of Culture and Community

Apart from its natural and academic offerings, Eberswalde is also entrenched in its local culture. The city hosts events like the Shopping Night and Halloween celebrations in the FamilienGarten, reflecting the city's commitment to community engagement and cultural diversity.

As the State Parliament's Internal Committee embarks on its journey to Eberswalde, the city promises much more than just a Police office visit. It stands as a beacon of development, conservation, and community spirit, embodying the diverse spirit of Brandenburg.
