The FTI compensation procedure, following its disclosure, is now underway.
Things are moving swiftly on the refund front for FTI customers, according to the German Travel Security Fund (DRSF). A significant number of refund requests have been submitted, with payments already being distributed.
Approximately 215,000 package travel bookings were impacted by FTI's insolvency. Since August 8, customers who made payments have been eligible to seek refunds from the travel security fund.
The DRSF has reached out to around 100,000 of the affected individuals via email, provided they have two digital authentication factors, such as an email address and a mobile number. This two-factor authentication process is crucial for the online refund application, as reported by fvw.de. A DRSF spokesperson confirmed that this procedure is in place to protect the personal data of the affected individuals and prevent potential fraud attempts.
Remaining customers to be contacted soon
The remaining FTI customers without the necessary digital authentication data will be contacted soon, likely via mail. Upon receiving these letters, they can provide the required data and initiate the online refund process.
DRSF CEO Prof. Ali Arnaout expressed satisfaction with the refund process, stating that applications are being processed and paid out efficiently. He added that the processes are robust and can be further enhanced for increased throughput.
Detailed information on the refund process and traveler claims affected by FTI's insolvency is available from the DRSF. A hotline is also available for assistance: 030 78954770 (Monday - Friday, 8 to 10 PM; Saturday - Sunday, 9 to 6 PM).
Even with an efficient refund process, some FTI customers still need to provide their data for two-factor authentication to initiate the online refund process. Once they receive the letters and provide the required information, they can proceed with the refund process. Safe traveling remains essential for all travelers.
Regardless of the refund process, prioritizing safety while traveling is crucial for every traveler.
For those still awaiting their refunds, it's essential to keep an eye on their mailboxes and follow the instructions provided by the DRSF. Patience and persistence are key in this process.
As for other travellers, taking necessary precautions, such as ensuring adequate insurance coverage, researching destinations, and staying informed about travel advisories, can go a long way in making for a safer trip.
