Commemoration: VfL Wolfsburg honors eight decades of victories in sports milestone
In the heart of Germany, the city of Wolfsburg has been closely linked with sports excellence for the past eight decades, thanks to the founding of VfL Wolfsburg on September 12, 1945. Originally established as a folk sports and cultural association named Verein für Leibesübungen Volkswagenwerk, the club has grown to become a significant contributor to Wolfsburg's sports history.
The anniversary of this milestone was celebrated in grand style, with a reception held at Schloss Wolfsburg. Representatives from the club, city, Volkswagen, fan base, and other partners, including prominent figures and companions, graced the event.
The city's mayor, Dennis Weilmann, emphasized the memory of the German championship celebration in May 2009 on the town hall square, where he was involved in organizing the reception. The expression on the faces of the Wolfsburger during this celebration was particularly memorable and can be described as 'pride'.
VfL Wolfsburg's athletes have served as outstanding ambassadors for the city, their sporting successes at various Olympic Games, World, and European Championships in various sports and disciplines reflecting positively on Wolfsburg. These achievements are deeply rooted in the city's history.
The initial location of VfL Wolfsburg was a barracks on Reislinger Street in Wolfsburg. At the time of its founding, the city had approximately 15,000 inhabitants. Over the years, the club has proven to be an important image bearer for the sports city of Wolfsburg.
Despite the lack of information about the individual founders or founding members from that date and location, it is clear that the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship has remained a constant in VfL Wolfsburg's journey. As the club continues to thrive, it looks forward to another 80 years of sporting success and city pride.
