In a poignant and timely special, ABC News Studios and Rock'n Robin Productions have joined forces to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The special, titled "Hurricane Katrina: 20 Years After the Storm with Robin Roberts", is set to air on ABC on Friday, Aug. 29, from 8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT.

David Sloan, senior executive producer for ABC News Studios, and Gabriel A. Kerr, senior producer for Rock'n Robin Productions, have spearheaded this project. Beth A. Mullen and Reni Calister, co-executive producers for Rock'n Robin Productions, have also played significant roles.

The special sees Robin Roberts, renowned broadcaster and journalist, returning home to the Gulf Coast. Roberts visits her hometown of Pass Christian, Mississippi, and speaks with Chipper McDermott, the town's former mayor. In New Orleans, she meets GRAMMY Award-winner Harry Connick Jr. at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

Roberts delves into the origins of jazz music and the return of Jazz Fest following Hurricane Katrina. She also discusses the storm's enduring impact, sharing hard truths, inspiring stories of resilience, and powerful updates on a community still rebuilding.

The special features additional interviews with artists Trombone Shorty, Tank from Tank & The Bangas, and Branford Marsalis. Rudy Valdez directs the special, which aims to champion untold and authentic stories driving the cultural zeitgeist, a mission shared by ABC News Studios.
