Comedian Helge Schneider is known as the "Clown of Climbing"

Helge Schneider, a renowned German artist, is turning 70 on August 30, and he has a special treat for his fans. On his birthday, he will perform in Hamburg's Stadtpark. However, the birthday party itself is not planned, as Schneider jokingly hints he might not perform on that day.

The artist, who was born in Mülheim an der Ruhr, North Rhine-Westphalia in 1955, has been a consistent presence on German stages since the 1980s. He has shown versatility in music, playing various instruments such as piano, guitar, saxophone, drums, violin, cello, Hammond organ, trumpet, and accordion.

Schneider's life and career are the focus of a new ARD documentary titled "The Klimperclown". Directed by Schneider himself and his long-time guitarist Sandro Giampietro, the documentary offers a unique format, devoid of traditional interview sections. Instead, it features Schneider narrating his story using various original past footage, short sketches, or clips at work.

In the documentary, Schneider presents some of his songs, in short sequences and in full length, including his famous piece "Katzeklo". The documentary airs on ARD's media library on August 20 at 10:50 PM.

Before taking the stage, Schneider follows a pre-show routine that includes physical exercises, thinking, body control, considering, and stretching. His dedication to his craft is evident in his consistent touring, with his current program being "A Man and His Music".

Schneider's career began early, as he had wanted to be a clown since childhood. Before focusing on his career as an entertainer, he worked as a landscape gardener, draftsman, and cow herder. In addition to his music and stage performances, Schneider has written books, made films, and produced audiobooks.

Whether you're a fan of Schneider's music, comedy, or simply intrigued by his versatile career, his 70th birthday performance in Hamburg's Stadtpark and the ARD documentary "The Klimperclown" promise an exciting celebration of his life and work.
