Combined administration ushers optimism among residents in freshly built Hưng Yên township
New Hung Yen Province Aims for Centrally Governed City Status by 2035
The newly merged Hung Yen Province, consisting of the former Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces, is embarking on a development strategy focused on high-tech industry, green and smart agriculture, and sustainable urbanization. This strategy aligns with the province's master plan through 2050, aiming to transform Hung Yen into a dynamic, open, and investor-friendly economic hub.
Key elements of Hung Yen’s development strategy include:
- High-tech industry and agriculture: The province prioritizes high-tech industrial production and high-quality agriculture, attracting investment that fosters innovation and sustainability in these sectors.
- Green and smart agriculture: Investment emphasis is placed on high-tech agriculture integrating eco-friendly and smart technologies to enhance productivity and environmental sustainability.
- Sustainable urbanization and eco-urban development: Hung Yen is developing eco-urban areas with a focus on infrastructure that supports sustainable growth. Large-scale social housing projects are being implemented to improve living standards and support the growing workforce.
- Transport and logistics infrastructure: Major infrastructure projects are underway, including key roads linking cultural heritage and tourism sites with industrial clusters, and strategic roads improving connectivity to ports and economic hubs. These are crucial to facilitating cargo flow and economic integration regionally.
- Green and smart hospital development: The Thai Binh General Hospital is being constructed following a green and smart hospital model, emphasizing low construction density and abundant green spaces.
- Investment attraction and international cooperation: Hung Yen actively seeks high-quality investment from domestic and foreign investors, with Japan as a key partner. The province encourages Japanese investment in industrial parks and free economic zones as part of its growth strategy toward 2050.
- Free Economic Zone (FEZ) aspirations: Hung Yen is pushing for the establishment of a modern FEZ, using suitable mechanisms and policies to achieve rapid but sustainable growth and exceed the national GDP growth targets.
The new Hung Yen Province, with a population exceeding three million people and a total natural area of over 2,500sq.km, is optimistic about the merger, expecting breakthroughs in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Residents like Tra Van Heu from Ngai Duong village hope for more investment in rural infrastructure to facilitate trade and make travel easier for residents.
The industrial zones of the former Hung Yen can directly connect with the abundant workforce from Thai Binh. Thai Binh's agricultural products can secure stable outlets through Hung Yen's logistics network. The former Thai Binh Province invested in coastal infrastructure, including roads and bridges, connecting to the Red River Delta, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, international airports, and the Mong Cai border gate.
Many residents believe the merger is a transformative opportunity for Hung Yen to become a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized province. Hung Yen aims to achieve centrally governed city status by 2035, positioning the Thai Binh Economic Zone as a new growth engine and developing its marine economy and southern coastal areas.
