Power Blue Wins the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes in a Thrilling Finish

Power Blue, an Irish-bred colt sired by Space Blues, has made headlines in the racing world after a stunning victory in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 10, 2025. The three-year-old, owned by AMO Racing Limited and trained by Adrian Murray, outshone the favourites to claim the prestigious race.

The race saw Power Blue overturning the form of last month's Group 2 Railway Stakes over course and distance, where he had suffered a significant defeat to the eventual runner-up, True Love. However, in the Phoenix Stakes, Power Blue demonstrated a remarkable turnaround, defeating True Love by a length and a half, with Green Sense finishing third.

The decisive victory was made possible by jockey David Egan's determined ride. Egan, a noted Irish jockey based in Britain with extensive experience in flat racing and several Group 1 wins, showed great skill in guiding Power Blue to victory. Egan has previously partnered with horses like Mishriff, contributing to their major wins, and his expertise was evident in Power Blue's performance.

Power Blue was purchased for £44,000 at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale by Aisling Noone and Simon Cavanagh's Drumloose Stables. The colt has been in the spotlight since his successful debut in the first two-year-old race of the season at this track back in March.

Bucanero Fuerte, another notable contender in the racing scene, won the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes 30 minutes before Power Blue's victory. Bucanero Fuerte, a Wootton Bassett colt, returned to racing after being retired to Tally-Ho Stud due to an undisclosed issue. He had previously won the Listed Sole Power Sprint at Naas in May, following a colic problem at Royal Ascot.

Meanwhile, Diamond Necklace, a filly by St Mark's Basilica, won The Grand Hotel Malahide Irish EBF Fillies' Juvenile Stakes. Diamond Necklace is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Chicquita and Magic Wand, and her breeders, Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm, have offered her Night Of Thunder half-sister as Lot 206 at the 2025 version of the sale.

In the same sale, Aidan O'Brien highlighted Diamond Necklace's potential to be a Fillies' Mile filly or have another run before three. O'Brien has also been victorious in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes for the second time in three runnings, with Power Blue's owner, Kia Joorabchian, being the victor this year.

Space Blues, the sire of Power Blue, recorded his ninth individual winner when Harlequin Angel was successful in a nursery at Newmarket. Dance To The Music, the full-sister of Space Blues, maintained her unbeaten record when winning the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.

As for Bucanero Fuerte, his future plans are focused on racing for the year, with no thoughts of returning to stud. The colt, who is a full-brother to Prix de l'Abbaye winner Wooded and sire of Group 1 Prix Jean Prat hero Woodshauna, won the Listed Sole Power Sprint at Naas in May after a colic problem at Royal Ascot.

In summary, Power Blue, an Irish-bred racehorse foaled on February 1, 2023, has risen in prominence in 2025, winning the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. The colt, owned by AMO Racing Limited and trained by Adrian Murray, has shown significant improvement and potential in high-class juvenile races under expert training and riding connections.

  1. The win of Power Blue in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes has showcased the success of horse-racing bloodstock, such as Space Blues, in the sports world, as Power Blue, sired by Space Blues, has demonstrated a remarkable turnaround in performance after initially suffering a significant defeat.
  2. As a testament to the talent among sports horses, Power Blue's impressive performance in horse-racing, including claiming the prestigious Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes, has earned him a place among notable contenders in the racing scene.
