Colorado’s winter storm leaves thousands without power for days

A severe winter storm forecast brought high winds and heavy snow to Colorado, leading to widespread power outages. Xcel Energy switched off electricity in many areas as a precaution, leaving thousands without power for hours—or even days. Businesses and homes faced disruptions as crews worked to restore lines and clear damage.

The outages began early on Wednesday, with Xcel Energy cutting power in Jefferson County around 10 a.m. The company planned to start restoring electricity after 6 p.m., but repairs stretched well into the night. Wind gusts knocked down trees and damaged power lines, forcing inspection teams to use drones and helicopters in some areas.

The storm’s impact left thousands in the dark, with some facing days without electricity. Small business ideas like Bortles’ restaurant dealt with financial losses, while Xcel continued assessing and repairing the damage. Power would return gradually, but many communities remained affected well into the following day.
