Colorado's Baseball Broadcaster Maintaining Optimism Amidst Team's Disastrous Campaign
Struggling with a losing team in any sport can be a drag, but it's an extra punch in the gut when your MLB team is floundering, like the Colorado Rockies this year.
They've set a grim record with the worst 60-game start in MLB history, losing a whopping 50 games before snatching their first 10 wins. Yikes!
For fans and players alike, this kind of record can feel like a never-ending Game of Groundhog Day, where the outcome is always the same – a loss. But within this gloom, there's a silver lining.
Radio voice Jack Corrigan, despite the team's lacklustre performance, remains surprisingly upbeat. Early in his career, he learned from a mentor, the late Joe Tait, to approach each game as its own separate chapter. Just because the story's not going well overall, it doesn't mean it can't have a happy ending with each new game.
"Baseball's a 162-chapter book," Corrigan said on The Dan Patrick Show. "All you do is worry about the chapter that night. It may be one of the best things he said."
"You can be an awful team, and you're going to still win 50-60 games. So you tell yourself, 'Tonight's one of the nights we're going to win.' You get all excited. You do it. And then if you don't, you leave the ballpark feeling even better because your odds have just improved by a game that you're still going to win 50 or 60," Corrigan added.
In June 2025, the Rockies fought hard to stay above water, with a dismal 12-50 record – the kind of stats that turn even the most die-hard fans into rage-filled alcoholics. And yet, Corrigan remains energized, finding some mysterious way to keep his mindset bright and enthusiastic amidst the chaos.
Whether it's his mentor's advice, or purewill, Corrigan's positivity is nothing short of admirable. Given his circumstances, I'd hook him up with some secret brain boosters, if I had the power.
But in all seriousness, let's hope the Rockies can turn things around soon. They've got 102 more games left, and Corrigan deserves his 60 wins. Here's to hoping they find their rhythm, ASAP!
Despite their wretched record, radio voice Jack Corrigan remains energetic and optimistic, echoing his mentor Joe Tait's wisdom of taking one game at a time. Regardless of their current 50-loss predicament, Corrigan believes that each game presents a fresh opportunity to win, maintaining the odds in their favor to secure 50-60 victories throughout the MLB season.
