The Ranch at Coulter Creek wildfire, which started north of Panorama Drive in Carbondale, Colorado, on Sunday, has now been fully contained as of August 5, 2025, at 4 p.m. The fire burned around 107 to 115 acres, but thankfully, no homes were lost, and no injuries were reported. One outbuilding was unfortunately destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters worked tirelessly with coordinated ground and air efforts to stop the fire's spread. Evacuation orders were lifted promptly, allowing residents to return home. Crews will continue to monitor the area in the coming days for any flare-ups or hot spots.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, with lightning suspected as the likely cause. Firefighters will remain on scene to perform "cold trailing" – a mop-up technique to extinguish remaining hot spots and ensure full extinguishment.
County Road 113, which was initially closed between County Roads 100 and 121, has reopened. The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District posted about the fire at 11:24 a.m. on Sunday.
