Colorado braces for back-to-back snowstorms with freezing temperatures this weekend
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Colorado’s central and northern mountains ahead of this weekend. Two separate snowstorms are forecast, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and freezing temperatures.
The first watch arrives Friday night into Saturday morning, with a second expected Sunday afternoon into Monday. Travel conditions may worsen due to icy roads and reduced visibility from gusty winds reaching 45 mph.
The National Weather Service has warned of significant snowfall in mountain regions. Areas near Rocky Mountain National Park, Summit, Park, Vail, and Aspen could receive 3 to 7 inches. Steamboat Springs and nearby zones may see even more, with 4 to 10 inches predicted.
Denver’s metro area is expected to get less than an inch, but this could mark the city’s first measurable snowfall of the season. A First Alert Weather Day is in effect, driven by a Pacific northwest storm and a surge of cold Canadian air.
Temperatures will plummet statewide over the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday are likely to stay at or below freezing. Sunday will be the coldest day, accompanied by another round of snowfall.
Drivers are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions, including slippery roads and poor visibility. The advisory remains active through Saturday morning, with further disruptions possible on Sunday and Monday.
The storm system will bring freezing temperatures, strong winds, and multiple snowfall events. Mountain regions face the highest accumulations, while Denver may see its first snow of the year.
Residents and travellers should monitor updates from local weather services for the latest conditions and advisories.
