Colorado Baseball Team Faces New Season: Rockies Roster Preview & Predictions

The Rockies' latest loss, broken down: 7-Eleven and zeros.

Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester crushed Colorado on Saturday at American Family Field, flinging a career-best seven frames and nailing a career-high 11 batters. The Rockies, meanwhile, managed a measly one hit the entire game.

The final tally: Brewers 5, Rockies 0.

Manager Warren Schaeffer of the Rockies, speaking to reporters in Milwaukee, had this to say about Priester: "He was bloody brilliant, and his sinker gave us a hard time. He spun us in circles, below the zone. He plain and simple owned us all day. We had no retort to him."

It marked the ninth time the Rockies have been silenced on the scoreboard this season. This latest defeat also represented their fifth straight loss, pushing their abysmal record to 18-65, inching ever closer to the prospect of the worst record in baseball's modern era.

The lone hit that 24-year-old Priester surrendered was a meaningless, one-out single by Michael Toglia to right field in the fifth inning. Priester (6-2, 3.35 ERA) issued only two walks. He rang up 20 whiffs on 44 Rockies swings. Priester became the first Brewers pitcher to tally double-digit strikeouts in a single game this season.

Meanwhile, Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela took a step backward. The right-hander delivered a solid outing last Sunday against the Diamondbacks, racking up his third win of the year. He conceded two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings and set a new season-high with five strikeouts.

Saturday, the relentless Brewers pummelled Senzatela, scoring five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. His ERA now rests at 6.69, with opponents hitting a hefty .355 against him.

The Brewers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to back-to-back singles by Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich, and a walk by William Contreras. Brice Turang's infield single scored Chourio, and Rhys Hoskins' sacrifice fly scored Yelich.

Joey Ortiz launched Senzatela's first-pitch sinker for a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 4-0. Contreras and Turang then connected for back-to-back doubles in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.

"I thought 'Senza' held his own," Schaeffer said. "(Except for) the mistake - the fastball away that came in towards Ortiz for the two-run homer. ... Senza stuck it out in the game until that two-run homer."
