Murder of Teenager 35 Years Ago: Cologne Cold Case on TV - Cologne's 30-Year-Old Murder Mystery: Can TV Help Solve Seckin Caglar's Case?
In October 1991, 16-year-old Seckin Caglar was murdered in Cologne after being sexually assaulted and strangled. Her body was found the following day near Cologne-Poll, on the right bank of the Rhine. Despite decades passing, her killer has never been identified.
Seckin was last seen alive after stepping off a tram on her way home from her training centre. The case went cold for years, but in 2023, Cologne Police's Cold Case Task Force reopened the investigation. Hundreds of men with connections to the Poll district were asked to provide DNA samples, yet no matches were found.
A mass DNA screening took place in March 2023, involving 355 men, while flyers were distributed to encourage new leads. Now, police are turning to the public for help. The case will be featured on ZDF's File Number XY… Unsolved on February 25, 2023, with Markus Weber, head of Cologne Police's Cold Case Unit, appearing on the show. Authorities hope the broadcast will prompt witnesses to come forward with vital information.
The murder of Seckin Caglar remains unsolved over 30 years later. Police continue to search for answers, relying on public cooperation and renewed media attention. The upcoming TV feature aims to generate fresh leads in the long-standing investigation.
