Collision on BAB 2 Triggers Chain Reaction, Leads to Severe Traffic Congestion

On a fateful afternoon on September 12, 2025, a significant traffic accident occurred on the A2 motorway near Bielefeld. The incident, which took place at around 13:23, occurred in the direction of Dortmund, near the Brönninghausen rest area, and involved five vehicles.

The accident began when a Renault car failed to avoid a car in front that was braking due to a traffic jam. In a tragic chain reaction, the Renault car collided with the car in front and another car on the middle lane while trying to swerve right. This collision triggered further damage to two more cars ahead.

The left lane of the A2 motorway was temporarily closed due to the accident, causing a traffic jam of up to ten kilometers. The first lane was reopened at around 14:40, and the entire roadway was reopened at around 15:10.

The accident resulted in three people being seriously injured. The injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance.

In a bid to manage the situation, a rescue helicopter landed near the accident site. The Bielefeld Police Headquarters urges all motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.
