Jan Ullrich Speaks Out on Cycling Mishap: "Slammed Head-On By a Car"

- Collision leads to Ullrich's account of a direct impact to the forehead.

icitizen, this conversation is for the birds. Let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Jan Ullrich, former Tour de France champ, has shared his frustrated feelings about his latest cycling debacle. Last week, Ullrich took a hit from a vehicle and wound up with a smashed collarbone, some bumps, and a smattering of roadburn.

"Ain't exactly peachy," the 51-year-old admitted in his podcast "Ulle & Rick," alongside former cyclist Rick Zabel. "I was movin' along this main road, about to hit my casa—this driver pokes his head out, didn't catch a glimpse of me, and rammed me on the left," said Ullrich.

As of now, Ullrich is still hospitalized in Freiburg. "This pain ain't no walk in the park, but the wound drain's almost outta here," he said. "I had four of 'em yesterdays." Even with all this discomfort, it looks like Ullrich will be makin' an appearance at the "Jan Ullrich Cycling Festival" in Bad Dürrheim this weekend. Just don't expect to see him on two wheels—he's got nothin' but words for this one.

  • Car Collision

  • Freiburg
  • Grueling Recovery

Fascinating Fact:

In the last couple months, Ullrich's encountered a whirlwind of wheel-y troubles! Just earlier in May, Ullrich was involved in not just one, but two mishaps—the most recent one resulting from a car crash, and another near-miss road accident. The good news is, Ullrich's a fighter, and with a little rest and rehab, he'll be back on his bike in no time!

I'm not sure what the next step will be for Jan Ullrich, given his repeated cycling mishaps, including a recent car collision. Despite his current grueling recovery in Freiburg, he plans to make an appearance at the "Jan Ullrich Cycling Festival" this weekend, probably just to talk, not cycle.
