Hoopin' it up in Husky Land

Joining the UW basketball ranks, Christian Nitu, a towering forward from Ontario, has decided to transfer from Florida State. Here's the lowdown on this lanky 6-foot-11 freshman ready to shake things up in Montlake.

Though he saw limited court time with the Seminoles last season, averaging 1.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 6.9 minutes, Nitu's move to Washington represents a vital step forward in his basketball career. A highly sought-after Canadian prospect in 2023, Nitu's arrival underscores a promising new chapter for the Huskies' frontcourt.

Initially signing with Indiana State, Nitu switched gears when head coach Josh Schertz jumped ship for Saint Louis. Now, he's swapped Florida's sunshine for Washington’s Pacific Northwest rain and aims to make a splash.

The exact role Nitu will play in Sprinkle's plans remains uncertain, and his arrival doesn't necessarily offset the loss of McDonald's All-American forward, Niko Bundalo, who recently parted ways with the Huskies. Regardless, the addition of Nitu bulks up an already packed frontcourt that already includes Franck Kepnang, Jacob Ognacevic, Lathan Sommerville, Mady Traore, and Hannes Steinbach.

Want more? The Huskies' influx of Division I transfers, including Wesley Yates III, Quimari Peterson, Bryson Tucker, Ognacevic, Sommerville, and Nitu, ranks a impressive 13th nationally. As for the incoming freshmen, keep an eye out for four-star guards JJ Mandaquit, Courtland Muldrew, and Jasir Rencher, junior-college transfer Traore, and German prospect Steinbach.

With 13 players in tow – just shy of the new 15-player limit – the Huskies are shaping up to be quite the force to be reckoned with on the hardwood.

Though Christian Nitu has left the basketball court of Florida State behind, his future lies in the Pacific Northwest as he joins the University of Washington Huskies. While the Seahawks and Seattle Sonics make headlines in sports news, Nitu aims to also make a name for himself in basketball, joining a frontcourt that includes prominent players like Franck Kepnang and Jacob Ognacevic. His arrival follows other Division I transfers, such as Wesley Yates III, Quimari Peterson, Bryson Tucker, and Lathan Sommerville, bolstering the Huskies' roster towards becoming a formidable force on the hardwood.
