A New Spin on the Chatsworth High Star's Serious Accident

In an unfortunate incident, Ryan Kartje, Eric Sondheimer, Richard Winton, and Alijah Arenas - the shining prospect for USC's basketball team - found himself embroiled in a severe accident early Thursday morning. A trusted source, who wish to remain unidentified, shared this news with The Times.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of Corbin Avenue and Blythe Street in Reseda. The Tesla Cybertruck, driven by Arenas, lost control around 4:56 a.m., crashing into a fire hydrant and a tree. LAPD officer Rosario Cervantes reported that the 18-year-old athlete was swiftly extracted from the wreckage and taken to a hospital, where he was fortunately stable. Remarkably, sources revealed that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be involved in the accident[1][2].

A video, obtained by TMZ, shows the chaotic aftermath of the crash, with water gushing from the sheared-off fire hydrant drenching the damaged Cybertruck. Onlookers scrambled to rescue the driver, and in the background, someone could be heard repeatedly urging Arenas to wake up. A later part of the video captures Arenas struggling to get up, lying face-down in a few inches of water as the hydrant continued gushing[2].

Upon revisiting the crash site, The Times obtained photographs showing the silver Cybertruck wrapping itself around a tree, with a crumpled "no parking" sign nestled between them. The windshield and both driver's side windows were shattered, and a piece of hydrant was lodged underneath the broken wheel well[2].

Just hours after the accident, the Cybertruck was moved from the scene and burst into flames at a tow yard. Subsequent reports suggest that the Los Angeles Fire Hazard Mat responded to the ensuing hazardous materials incident[1][3].

Arijah, the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, had planned to stream a new episode of his online show on Thursday. His mother, Laura Govan, expressed her concerns on Instagram, requesting "all your prayers."

Landing Five-Star Talent: Alijah Arenas Chooses USC over Heavyweights

Alijah Arenas' commitment to USC signals the most significant recruitment triumph of Eric Musselman's tenure with the Trojans. A top-tier recruit in the 2025 class, Arenas brings a five-star pedigree to Musselman's vision in L.A.

As the all-time City Section scoring leader with over 3,000 points, Arenas led Chatsworth High to the CIF Division II state championship game in March and recently participated in the McDonald's All-American game. With USC, he's set to have a significant role as a freshman, following his choice of the Trojans over established basketball powers like Arizona, Kansas, and Kentucky[5].

Upon hearing about the accident, USC coach Eric Musselman issued a statement expressing concern for Arenas and his family, imploring everyone to keep them, the basketball team, and the entire Arenas family in their thoughts and prayers.

Chatsworth students were granted a day off from school on Thursday, coincidentally on Armenian Genocide Memorial Day.
