College Athlete Affirms Enrollment, Turns Down Basketball Scholarship Offer
Garyn Jackson Shines as Top Senior Player in 10th Region Boys Basketball
Garyn Jackson, a senior guard from Campbell County, has been voted the top senior player in the 10th Region boys basketball last season. Jackson's impressive performance earned him this prestigious title, following a successful three-year tenure under coach Aaron Stamm at Ludlow.
During his time at Ludlow, Jackson's teams posted records of 25-8, 19-9, and 25-11, reaching the 10th Region final in the post-season playoffs where they won the 37th District title. In his final season, Jackson averaged an impressive 16.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. He even managed a triple-double in points, rebounds, and assists twice during the 2021-2022 season.
Jackson's standout performances earned him the title of 10th Region Player of the Year among seniors by members of the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. This recognition is a testament to his dedication and skill on the court.
After his successful high school career, Jackson enrolled at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) to continue his basketball journey. The details of his recruiting process are not explicitly detailed, but it's clear that NKU provided him with an opportunity to play college basketball at a competitive level, even though he may have hoped for an opportunity elsewhere.
Aaron Stamm, Jackson's high school coach, has had a successful career in coaching. Prior to his current position, he was the boys head basketball coach at Ludlow for the last three seasons. Before that, he spent nine seasons as the head coach of the Conner girls basketball team, winning 118 games and making five 9th Region tournament appearances. In total, Stamm has coached a total of 407 games across his career, winning 354 games as a girls head coach and 53 wins as a boys head coach.
Stamm has now been hired as the head coach of the Bishop Brossart girls basketball team, replacing Steve Brown who resigned after three seasons. Bishop Brossart competes in the 10th Region, and last season, the girls team won the 10th Region All "A" Classic and made it to the state tournament semifinals. The team boasts a promising roster, with five of the top nine scorers being underclassmen.
Meanwhile, Morgan Hentz, a Notre Dame graduate, is making waves in the world of volleyball. She is a libero on the U.S. women's national volleyball team that will play in the second round of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) beginning Friday. Last month, Hentz was named Libero of the Year in the Pro Volleyball Federation for the second consecutive season.
Hentz has been a member of the national team for the second year, and had a 1-3 record in VNL first-round matches played in Brazil. Despite the challenging start, Hentz's determination and skill are undeniable, and she continues to inspire athletes across the globe.
