The Pontiff: Pope Leo XIV

Originally from Chicago, Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, brings a wealth of pastoral experience and a deep understanding of diverse cultures to the role. After earning degrees in mathematics, divinity, and canon law, Prevost served in Peru for over three decades, dedicating himself to the Augustinian Order and the Diocese of Chiclayo.

Previously serving as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, a powerful Vatican role responsible for episcopal appointments worldwide, Prevost's extensive background and experience have prepared him to be a strong advocate for unity and bridge-building, both within the church and across various communities.

As Pope Leo XIV, Prevost embodies the title Pontifex – the bridge-builder – and is poised to bring people together in hope and unity. Woelki predicts that his tenure will be marked by bridge-building and reconciliation, with a particular focus on the church's efforts in Latin America.
