Cynthia Erivo, a Black LGBTQ woman, is set to play a key religious personality in the upcoming "Jesus Christ Superstar" concert at the Hollywood Bowl. This casting choice has sparked controversy, with some conservative circles expressing criticism.

Erivo, however, has described the Hollywood Bowl as a place where she can "sing her face off," and has referred to the performance as "the gayest place on Earth." This production, according to the show's co-star Adam Lambert, who plays Judas, is intended to provoke and challenge.

Lambert finds Erivo's voice, presence, and simultaneous power and vulnerability absolutely remarkable. He has dismissed the flak about Erivo's casting in an interview with Billboard, encouraging the audience to expand their minds a bit in regards to the production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Adam believes the teachings of Jesus should transcend gender. He has worked with Erivo and found it to be a dream collaboration. Erivo, too, has expressed hope that the critics will attend the performance and realize it's a musical.

When asked about the criticism, Erivo stated, "You can't please everyone." Lambert echoes this sentiment, urging the audience to approach the performance with an open mind.

The three-day performance of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Hollywood Bowl will run from August 1 to 3. With its provocative and challenging nature, it promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
