Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide - County Road Closed - Collapsed retaining wall triggers landslide, shutting down County Road 2065

A retaining wall along County Road 2065 in the Heilbronn district collapsed on February 24, 2026. The failure triggered a landslide that blocked the route between Brackenheim and Schwaigern. Authorities have now closed the road until at least the end of March while investigations continue.

The collapse happened after days of heavy rainfall and poor drainage weakened the structure. Nearly 20 metres of the wall gave way, causing debris to spill onto the road. Experts believe groundwater fluctuations and outdated concrete supports contributed to the failure.

County Road 2065, built in the mid-1960s, had a narrow single-lane design and known subsidence issues dating back to the 1990s. Road crews secured the site and set up a detour for drivers. An expert assessment will now decide how to stabilise the slope and safely reopen the route.

The road will stay closed for repairs until further notice. Engineers must address drainage problems and reinforce the slope before traffic can return. The incident highlights long-standing concerns about the road's ageing infrastructure.
