Chaos in Russian Borders: Bridges Collapse, Trains Derail - Is it Sabotage?

Collapse strikes at Russia's frontier areas of Kursk and Bryansk, affecting bridges.

Updated: June 1, 2025

Got your attention? Here's the lowdown on the recent mayhem unfolding in the Russian border regions of Kursk and Bryansk.

The early hours of today saw two bridges snapped in two and two trains hurtling off their tracks. Let's dive into the details, shall we?

First off, in Shelesnogorsk, Kursk, a bridge gave way like a house of cards while a freight locomotive rolled over it. Governor Alexander Chinshtein announced the tragic incident on Telegram, revealing that part of the train and a road below were reduced to ashes. Luckily, the locomotive drivers were just bruised and battered and are now receiving medical care. The passenger count on the train remains a mystery, though.

Fast forward a few hours, and the authorities in Bryansk were singing a similar desperate tune. A highway bridge went kaput, collapsing onto the railway tracks. The domino effect sent an approaching passenger train spiraling off its tracks. According to regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz, the toll is heavy: at least seven souls were snuffed out, and 69 others have been hospitalized. Three innocent children are included in the wounded tally.

Bogomaz later spoke with the state-run Russian news agency Interfax, revealing that the bridge was inexplicably blown up just as a train from Klimovo to Moscow, filled with 388 hapless passengers, rolled by. The state railway company is accusing someone - or something - of interfering with the railway operation, calling it an "illegal act." The incident took place at around 10:44 PM local time, between the stations of Pilshino and Vygonichi, about 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Now, hold on tight, because things are about to get juicy. Ever since the Russian assault on Ukraine in February 2022, the authorities have been justifying acts of sabotage on railway lines. After all, they claim Ukraine is using the railway for transporting troops and weapons to their battleground.

Offensive on Sumy

Kursk and Bryansk lie in Russia's southwest and border Ukraine. You better believe people are whispering that these bridge collapses are part of a new Russian offensive on the Ukrainian region of Sumy. Allegedly, the Russian military has been positioning over 50,000 soldiers in the border regions for this purpose. Sumy shares a border with Kursk and Bryansk in the north.

Playing Politics

Our military expert Nico Lange believes the Russian army will attempt to conquer three more Ukrainian regions for this buffer zone: Sumy and Kharkiv in the northeast, as well as the eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk.

In response to the impending Russian onslaught, Ukraine ordered the evacuation of eleven villages in Sumy on Saturday. As of the latest reports, a shocking 213 villages in the region have been evacuated, citing constant danger to the civilian populace due to the bombardment of border communities.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Kremlin has denied touches on Putin's helicopter.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. Makes ya wonder, doesn't it? Who's behind these disasters, and what are they planning next?
