Train Derailments and Bridge Collapses in Border Regions of Kursk and Bryansk
Collapse of Bridges Reported in Border Regions of Kursk and Bryansk, Russia
Get ready for a wild ride! Two bridges and two trains went ka-boom in the Russian regions of Bryansk and Kursk last night. A freight locomotive brought down the bridge in Shelesnogorsk, Kursk, sending part of the train plummeting onto a road below and catching fire. The drivers were hurt, but the number of passengers aboard remains a mystery. Just a few hours earlier, a highway bridge came crashing down onto railway tracks in Bryansk, causing a passenger train bound for Moscow to jump the tracks, resulting in at least seven fatalities and 69 injuries. Three little ones were amongst the casualties.
Russian investigators are all over this, claiming these collapses are orchestrated by sinister ways. They believe these bridges were destroyed by explosions. The dynamiting of the bridge in Bryansk took place while a train packed with 388 eager travelers was passing through, as per Bryansk's Governor, Alexander Bogomaz. The railway company reported the illegal interference with operations happened at 22:44 local time (21:44 CET) between the stations of Pilshino and Vygonichi, about 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The Ukrainian military intelligence service HUR also chipped in, alleging they took out a freight train en route to the annexed Crimean Peninsula, citing the explosion disrupted a vital logistics artery for the Russian military in the occupied territories of Saporizhzhia.
The military intelligence service won't officially take credit for the bridge blasts, but they promised the fight against the Russian army's logistics will not wane. Russian authorities have been reporting railway sabotage since their attack on Ukraine in February 2022, with Ukraine justifying its actions by stating Russia is using the railway for weapon transportation and troop movement in Ukraine.
Red Alert in Sumy
Located in southwest Russia, sharing borders with Ukraine, it's rumored these bridge collapses have something to do with an impending Russian offensive on the Ukrainian region of Sumy. This battlefield would supposedly secure a buffer zone for Kursk and Bryansk from possible Ukrainian attacks, as per military analyst Nico Lange's musings. If the rumors hold true, the Russian army is setting its sights on seizing control of not just Kursk and Bryansk, but also the regions of Sumy and Kharkiv in the northeast, as well as the eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk.
In preparation for the offensive and due to "daily threats to the lives of the civilian population" from border shelling, Ukraine has ordered the evacuation of 213 settlements in Sumy – 11 villages just last Saturday. The intensity of Russian attacks on Sumy has increased since they forced Ukraine out of Kursk in recent months, according to their own claims.
Politics: A Helicopter Attack or Kremlin's Fiction?
A fierce debate arose in the land of Putin when a rumor of an attack on the Russian president's helicopter surfaced. Some claim it was fabricated by the Kremlin, while others insist it was part of a larger conspiracy to justify military action.
